During a visit to Port Harcourt, Rivers State in 2018, I met a driver at the Airport who was scheduled to work with me for the day. On our way to carry out the task, I got hungry, bought some food and got exactly the same portion for him also. He was so surprised and at the same time elated.
I got to the government office and needed to get a document signed to proceed to the next stage, that was how they said I have to come back the next day. Chai! I was destabilized immediately. I had a flight to catch back to Lagos in about 180 minutes. It does not make sense spending so much on a trip without any result.
I went back inside the car, trying to reach some of my colleagues via telephone call, the man asked what happened then I explained to him. He brought out his phone and called the Deputy Head of the Unit I was going to, I was surprised.... to cut the story short, I was ushered into the person's office immediately and got the document signed on the spot. Till today, I am still in contact with the driver. I also referred lots of clients to him over the years and when he called me yesterday to check on me, I felt blessed. He even sent me airtime.
Sometimes, we just can't tell how much we are helping ourselves when we are kind to other people.
