My first flight to Abuja was in 2018, I had been scheduled to visit one of the topmost government parastatals to carry out a particular task that involves millions. Yes, I mean "plenty money" but on paper.

Abuja is such a serene place to be, I can bet that you would love the city upon first visit (I am not talking about the rural places ooo). Also, you will only enjoy yourself in the FCT if you have good money (not yeye money). If you don't have money, just stay on your lane and hustle till you are sure you have money.

Anyways, I got to the airport, requested for an Uber and in no time, I was already at Maitama, that was my first time in the giant office, I met a lot of people "supposed learned people" who were only willing to do the job, if you'd offer some cash. I was so devastated, my profession (accounting) strictly frowns at any element of unethical behaviour. I quickly thought about it, what can I do....

I placed a call through to some of my colleagues, they said you have to beg them, I was like beg... These people are elderly enough, they won't accept any beg ooo. Alas, I begged and they said they'd work on it. I was happy, confidently rescheduled my return flight and slept over.

Day 2,... Woke up very early as usual forgetting I'm not in Lagos, rushed to the office, only to meet the absence of many of the staff. While waiting, an elderly official walked in around past 9am, I followed him straight away, only to discover that my application for the grant and the entire document had been thrown outside. Chai, I laughed hard like a generator that is faulty....

The man then looked at me and said, young man, we are too busy, how do you expect us to review all these bundle of papers you brought. I told him, I have soft (scanned) copies of everything, it's just about 8000 pages document. The man looked at me like I was carrying a bomb..., Really!!!, He said..... You really mean business ooo..

At the end, we reviewed the document together, did the application, sent it in for approval and I have not heard from them till date.... Wasted effort.

I plan to branch at the office after the lockdown to greet them and tell them "thanks for the other day, may God reward you accordingly "
